Making History

This really has been a historical election. I just can't help but write about it so when I look back in a few years I will remember what I was feeling. I am hopeful for our future, even though I don't agree with many of Obama's policies. I am nervous at the changes he has promised to make, but have hope that maybe just maybe some of his policies will help turn America around.

I was touched by John McCain's concession speech. He made me forget for a few moments about left and right political views and remember that we are all Americans. I have never before heard a political candidate speak with such sentiment and speak without guile. So kudos to John McCain for showing us how to lose gracefully.

I am anxious about the future. I think we have been polluted by the media for so long that we started to believe that it was actually okay to not just disagree with but disrespect the President of the United States. There is a fine line between disagreement and disrespect. One is our right as Americans the other is our duty as Americans to uphold. I think McCain reminded me of that last night when he asked the crowd to not boo at Obama's name. Is this possible to actually do? I hope so and I am trying to teach my children this as a part of "what it means to be patriotic".

I am so grateful to live in America where we can vote and "have a voice" in policy making and the election of leaders. We are the luckiest people in the world. I hope we can remember that, amidst all the economic and political struggles that may present themselves in the future.

Off my soap box I climb...
